Our Story: Why We Launched Support One Computer Lab at a Time
In October last year, our team visited Askofu Adrian Secondary School in Morogoro during their graduation ceremony—an experience that became a defining moment in our journey and directly inspired our “Support One Computer Lab at a Time” fundraising campaign.
We were honored to attend as the main guest speaker, joining students, teachers, parents, and school leadership to celebrate academic achievement and resilience. The graduation ceremony was filled with pride and hope, reflecting the determination of students who have worked hard to reach this milestone.
However, beyond the celebration, the visit revealed a deeper story—one that mirrors the reality of many schools across the country.
During discussions with the school administration, several challenges were shared. The school faces a shortage of sports equipment, limiting opportunities for physical development and talent growth. They also struggle with the high cost of textbooks for newly introduced subjects, following recent curriculum changes—placing financial pressure on both the school and families.
Most striking was the state of the school’s unfinished computer laboratory.
This lab was intended to be a central space for digital literacy and ICT learning, yet due to limited resources, it remained incomplete. As a result, students had little to no access to computers—restricting their ability to develop essential digital skills needed for further education, employment, and participation in the modern digital economy.
That moment made something clear to us:
Digital exclusion often begins in schools—not because of lack of ambition, but because of lack of infrastructure.
At SheIsConnected, our mission is to bridge the digital divide by expanding access to technology and skills for young people. The situation at Askofu Adrian Secondary School reinforced the urgent need for practical, school-based digital solutions.
This is why we launched “Support One Computer Lab at a Time.”
The campaign is built on a simple but powerful idea:
👉 When you fully support one school’s computer lab, you transform learning for hundreds of students.
Through this campaign, we aim to:
-
Complete and equip unfinished computer labs
-
Provide computers and basic ICT infrastructure
-
Enable digital literacy and school digital clubs
-
Create long-term impact by supporting one school at a time
Askofu Adrian Secondary School represents many schools with motivated students and dedicated teachers—ready to embrace digital learning but held back by limited resources. By focusing our efforts, mobilizing partners, and engaging communities, we believe sustainable digital inclusion is possible.
This campaign is more than fundraising—it is a commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind in the digital age, starting with one computer lab, one school, and one community at a time.
